Latch pain is never normal.
Never!
Latch pain – just like a baby’s cry – is a signal telling us to take action.
Sometimes, we can resolve latch pain completely by changing how we approach latch and positioning!
Sometimes, parents are doing all the right things and the latch is still painful.
It’s not that breastfeeding is meant to be this way.
It’s not that you just have to “wait it out”.
It’s not that your nipples just need to “toughen up” (I can’t believe some people still say this – it makes me cringe).
It’s not that you’re just not meant to breastfeed. (I promise.)
And contrary to what you may have heard, it’s not because of your flat nipples, large chest, or anything else about your anatomy.
Latch pain that doesn’t resolve with adjustments to latch and positioning tell us that there is something deeper going on.
ILC has helped hundreds of families move beyond painful latch and to successful, comfortable nursing.
My success rate is strong because I get to the root cause of what’s driving pain – whether it’s improving positioning, helping baby’s reflexes fire, addressing oral ties, vasospasm, or something else.
